Town Green Park
Maple Grove, Minnesota
Project and Landscape Architect:
HGA Architects and Engineers, Damon Farber Landscape Architects
General Contractor:
RJM Construction
Scope of Work:
A former open-pit sand and gravel quarry, Town Green Park demonstrates what thoughtful mine reclamation can achieve for a community. Sunde Engineering served as lead civil engineer, working alongside the full design and construction team to transform the 12-acre site into an open-air community band shell for music, dance, and theater under a dramatic concrete canopy — along with three additional pavilions serving as gateways to a larger event area offering concessions, restrooms, and meeting space.
Like many rapidly growing edge communities, Maple Grove had no civic center or downtown — but it did have a large gravel pit that had served Twin Cities construction for decades. City leaders challenged the design team to reimagine the site as a new gathering place for the community, and the result is a 12-acre public park that draws residents together for performances, recreation, and open-air activities year-round.
